In 2024, BGN recognised the need for a more structured and consistent approach to mentoring within the community. To address this, they launched the Association of Mentors. This association aims to:
Recruit and Train Volunteers: Source and train volunteers from the ChurchGOers Faith Network and other relevant sources to join the UK national mentoring pool.
Match Mentors and Mentees: Pair volunteers with students based on their interests, skills, and availability.
Provide Support Services: Offer resources, training, and support to mentees, mentors and their organisations.
Foster Community Engagement: Promote mentoring opportunities and build relationships with local organisations and schools.
Host Career Fairs: Host career fairs partnering with mentoring organisations and community employers
By establishing the Association of Mentors, BGN has strengthened its commitment to providing opportunities and support for entire community fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.
The Association of Black Mentors is formerly the Black Gifted Network (BGN) is a community-based organisation established in 2020 with a primary focus on inspiring, uplifting, and supporting Black and Minority ethnic communities. BGN has undertaken a variety of initiatives, including mentoring projects, to provide opportunities and resources for individuals within these communities.
Mentoring Projects:
IT-Focused Mentoring: BGN has implemented programs that match students with mentors in the information technology field, offering valuable hands-on experience and career guidance.
Community and Cause-Related Projects: BGN has engaged students in community service and social justice projects, allowing them to contribute to their local communities while developing essential skills.
